Why a Conference on Living the Christian Life in NYC?
RTS New York City launched in 2015. Rev. Dr. Timothy Keller was a founding Lecturer. Each year Dr. Keller taught a course called Living the Christian Life in Secular Culture. This conference gathers RTS faculty, lecturers, and fellows with local NYC pastors to direct our attention to same theme. How do we live faithfully and joyfully in NYC? We will spend a day immersing ourselves in themes from 1st and 2nd Peter. The Apostle Peter reminds us that Christians in every age are to live as "exiles." We will explore this notion of exile together through Scriptural exposition, discussion, and application of themes found in 1st and 2nd Peter: Exile, Hope, Virtue, Scripture, Gentleness, and the New Earth. The conference design embodies the dynamic that we find in the classroom at RTS NYC. Our faculty partners with the church in NYC to train leaders for kingdom service. We will make short study guides of each theme and the conference audio available for personal or congregational use. We hope for this gathering to be the first of many future gatherings to encourage local pastors, Christians, and congregations.
